The Epicurious Wanderers!

Broke my Bigma!

With just weeks to go now before Helen and I set off on our African Adventure I find myself without a big zoom lens!  A few weeks ago the moon was looking spectacular so I decided to try out my new MogoPod.  First couple of shots in landscape format went well, so I decided to flick the camera sideways and grab a shot or two in portrait format.

Sounds simple enough……  Just release the pivot lock and tilt the camera to the left….  mmmm with lens mounted it was heavier than I thought, as I released the pivot lock the camera slipped to the left and pinched my finger between it and the MogoPod…  What happened next is a disaster, I immediately let go with my left hand, trouble was right hand had been on the pivot lock and that slipped too, oh yes and no neckstrap.  The Camera and the attached Sigma 50 -500 lens smashed to the ground.  The result, well lets just say a Sigma lens shouldn’t be in two pieces……

The lens has now been with CameraElectronic for 4 weeks for repair, at last conversation it was in Japan with Sigma themselves being assessed. Things are not looking good….  I may be hunting for a new lens before we go away..

The lesson here is always use the bloody neckstrap, even if it is just one or two shots you’re taking in the backyard!!
